So you've reached out to see a counselling professional. What's next?
All you need to know from first contact to the first session with me!

First Session
01
First Contact

Feel free to email me or schedule a 15-minute consultation meeting with me!

It usually takes me 1 to 2 days to respond to inquiries. I will contact you through email to talk about the next steps and confirm a consultation appointment.

02
Free Consultation
The phone consultation will be 15 mins. It's really to see if we would be a good fit for each other to continue a therapeutic relationship.

Some questions I will ask about are:
-
What brings you to counselling?
-
What would you like me to know about you?
-
What art modalities are you most comfortable/uncomfortable with?

I also encourage you to ask questions! Some common questions:
-
Have your worked with clients who are experiencing similar things?
-
Why did you become a therapist?
-
What will sessions with you look like? What can I expect?

NOTE: A consultation is not a therapy session. It is a conversation about what you would like, what to expect and get a better understanding of the counsellor.

Before the First Session
After the phone consultation, and you are still interested in booking a first session with me, there are a couple of things to do.
In an email, I will be sending you an Intake Form and Psychotherapy Contract for you to read through. We will be going through the form in our first session, so note down any questions you may have.
I will also be sending an Intake Form, which asks about name, contact information, emergency contact etc.

In the same email, I will send you a link that will allow you to book our first session. A confirmation email will be sent to confirm the appointment, along with the link to my online therapy room.
04
The First Session
We will be going through the Psychotherapy Contract. Feel free to ask me any questions or concerns you may have. I will ask you to sign it and email it back to me before our next session together.

A first session is really about getting to know each other. I will typically ask about what brings you to therapy, what has worked for you in the past, and what you need from me to feel safe enough to share your experiences. I invite you to ask me questions as well.

We may do some art together. The kind of art we do will be dependent on what you are comfortable with and what materials you have. We may draw, move, tell a story, dance or anything that comes up! Or we don't have to do art at all! Many of my clients prefer talking, and that's totally okay with me! So anything goes!
05
After the first session
We will wrap up our session, and possibly set up another appointment, either during the session or through the scheduler.

I will be sending an invoice detailing the cost of the session.

And that's the first session!
