Why Choose To Work With Me?

There are a lot of questions to consider before beginning therapy! It can be overwhelming. I've been there! Here are some things to consider.
  • Why are you considering therapy?

  • What do you wish to get out of counselling?

  • What's important to you when it comes to finding a therapist?

  • What about a therapist's personality?

  • Am I a good fit for you?

Who are you?

Most of my clients are queer and Asians. They come to me because I understand the complexity of racism, gender identity and sexual orientation and how they intersect. Thoughts and behaviour patterns are so integrated with how we are brought up. The constant balancing of the push and pull of family expectations vs our own wishes. There are so many layers of internalized beliefs to work through because of our own experiences: of being a visible minority, a child of Asian parents, of being a person who is LGBTQ+, a woman in a patriarchal society.

I help you discover and explore how those threads are intertwined, and how to unknot, or tie them. The whole process is not easy. It's not always sunshine and rainbows (no matter how much I would like to see rainbows everyday). It's learning and unlearning thoughts and behaviours we've spent our whole lives living.  You might feel worse after a session than when you came in. Unknotting, retying, cutting and connecting threads take a lot of time and a lot of effort.

I'm not here to judge you, or tell you what to do. I'm not here to force you into telling me all the gory details when you're not ready. I'm not here to fix you or put you back together. That's not my role as your therapist. My role is to be here to support, nudge, hold you in your self exploration.
